Fiber Reconnections

The Handweavers Guild of Boulder (HGB), in conjunction with the University of Colorado Art Gallery, will present Fiber Reconnections as part of Colorado Weavers Day on the campus of the University of Colorado, Boulder. This show is an opportunity for members of HGB to show their artistic and eco-sense. The intent of the show is to introduce the students at the university, Colorado Weavers Day attendees, and the residents of Boulder to the diversity of fiber art, from traditional techniques to the avant garde, to new works created from recycled materials.
Jurors
Fiber Reconnections will be juried by Betsy Blumenthal and Denise Perreault.
Betsy Blumenthal is a textile artist who has been exploring the intersection of weaving and dyeing for over 40 years. She holds an MFA in Textiles from Indiana University and co-authored Hands on Dyeing. She weaves wall pieces, unique wearable art pieces and textiles for the home.
Denise Perreault has been a textile artist for 28 years, specializing in functional weavings and beadwork for interior design. Her signature pieces are large-scale window valances made of thousands of glass beads or tiles. She is a frequent contributor to "Beadwork" magazine, and has had her artwork and home featured in a number of books and publications
Application Instructions
Applicants may submit up to two pieces. The application fee is $15 must be included with the application to cover the cost of the exhibit. Submission will be digital images on a CD. Slides will not be accepted. Submit one digital image of the entire piece and one detail image of each piece. Label CDs with the following: Artist's name, Pin #, the name of the piece, the size of the piece, and note which image is the detail of the piece (Please see application form). All CDs will be returned to you by mail within a week after the end of the Show, if you include a stamped self-addressed envelope large enough for a CD. The jury process will be completely anonymous. ubmissions must be postmarked by January 29, 2010.
Applicants must be members of The Handweavers Guild of Boulder. All items must be current (constructed in the last 3 years), and not previously in a show or exhibit anywhere in the state, predominately made of fiber and constructed by one of the following processes: appliqué, piecing or quilting, bead weaving, embroidery or stitchery, felting, knitting, basketry or crochet, lace or knotting, painting or dyeing, papermaking, spinning, and weaving or other interlacement technique. The submitted pieces will be held to a quality standard that is utilized by the Handweavers Guild of Boulder. Please note that all art will NOT be for sale at the Show, but the artist may be contacted by a potential buyer at a later date.
