Environmental Awareness Kommittee (EAK)

  • July 22, 2019 1:17 PM | Anonymous

HGB has a new committee -- the Environmental Awareness Kommittee, or EAK. We are Kris King, Gillian Keiper, Pat Martinek, and Moe Sherman. Our mission is: To share information and provide motivation to enhance the use of environmentally-friendly techniques in our studios, homes, and communities.

You will see us in The Beat, on the HGB website, and the HGB Facebook page. We have been brainstorming ideas of what we think this committee could do for our guild. Here are a few of the things that seem to be good starting points:

    • share tips on more environmentally-friendly practices
    • share projects incorporating reused materials at show-and-tells
    • highlight items incorporating environmentally-friendly practices at our annual sale -- possibly through a table of such items, and/or special sale tags on such items
    • move towards more environmentally-friendly practices in our meetings, such as washable coffee mugs and compostable utensils
    • work with Mountain & Plains Fibershed towards their mission of fostering collaboration among textile artists, designers, fiber farmers, processing mills, suppliers, and retail businesses in and around Colorado

None of this is set in stone -- we are just getting started. We welcome any and all ideas you have. Contact me, Gillian, Pat, or Moe. The four of us are very excited about this new work. Part of our job is to get you excited about it too. Please email us at eak@handweaversofboulder.org with questions, suggestions, tips, whatever!
