    • Date: Saturday, Apr. 11, 2026
    • Time: 9am-noon
    • Location: Mountain View Methodist Church, Boulder, Room 15
    • Class size: 20
    • Prerequisites/Experience: None

What to bring to the workshop:

    • an embroidery hoop (5-7" is usually best but any size will do)
    • a piece of light colored cotton fabric (got a tea towel or old sheets around? Use those)
    • a tapestry, chenille, or embroidery needle
    • pair of scissors
    • embroidery floss (whatever colors you like)
    • a water erasable marking pen, transfer pen, or friction pen (don't have that? don't worry we can work with pencil, chalk, ballpoint pen, whatever you got)
    • it will be extra fun if you bring some random materials to play with: fancy yarn, sticks, buttons, ribbon, etc. The more random the better!

OR if you, like many, purchased an embroidery kit in 2020 and haven't gotten around to it yet...that will be perfect.

Another option is to buy all of the materials you need in this handy bundle that Maydel set up for us. The cost of the bundle is $13. Maydel is an ethically-sourced, women-owned business and I am a big fan. Here's the link https://maydel.com/product/intro-to-embroidery-bundle-by-badass-cross-stitch/

Vivid - A Celebration Of Color

2026 Showcase Theme: Vivid - A Celebration of Color

    Details coming May 2026

Color is used in art to evoke mood and shape perceptions. It creates depth, light and shadow. Use of color strategically involves mixing, combining, and arranging color to create harmony or contrast.

This year's Showcase focus will be the use of intensity, the vividness of color, to evoke an emotional response in the viewer.

Low intensity colors may be calming or serene. These are exemplified by cool blues, purples and greens often associated with water, sky, mountains, earth and ice.

High intensity colors may be energetic, happy and bright. They are associated with the reds, oranges and yellows of heat, sun, and fire.

In your artist statement, explain how your use of color helped define the feelings that you wish to convey with your work.

Fantastic Fibers 2026

Fantastic Fibers is an international juried exhibition showcasing a wide range of outstanding works within the fiber medium. As one of Yeiser Art Center’s most innovative and celebrated annual exhibitions, it continues to inspire fine artists, quilters, and textile art enthusiasts around the world. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 and older, this exhibition welcomes contemporary and innovative works that use fiber as the primary medium or concept. What began in 1987 as a wearable art show has evolved into a compelling mix of traditional and nontraditional works created from natural or synthetic fibers, as well as pieces that conceptually engage with fiber.

Registration for entries ends February 6, 2026 while the exhibition itself occurs March - May 2026. Visit theyeiser.org/fantastic-fibers for more information.

Weave Across America

In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the Thousand Islands Arts Center ~ Home of the Handweaving Museum is thrilled to announce a national juried call for Weave Across America — a collaborative coverlet project encouraging weavers and fiber artists to consider the symbolism of the American flag. What does the flag mean to you today, and how might you express these feelings in a textile? We invite weavers to submit your interpretation of what the American flag means to you in the language of handwoven cloth. Make your voice heard! This is an opportunity to become part of handweaving history for future generations.

Fiber artists across the United States are welcome to submit your work to be considered for inclusion in this unique, community-driven textile piece. Selected weavers will contribute individual pieces that, when assembled together, will form a single, unified coverlet representing the richness of American handweaving traditions, a celebration of the diversity, creativity, and skill of handweavers from coast to coast.
